Not all search results containing the term “porn” are actually porn, and not all “boobs” are women’s breasts – but Google Image Search no longer makes the difference. Now look for “boob” with safe-search on, and you get nothing. Not even a “foolish or stupid person” as boob is defined.
This is because Google changed its image search algorithm to make you work hard for finding porn images. So hard, that many users consider the move censure.
But Google denies it vehemently. In a response to CNET, the company told that it was not censoring any adult content:
We are not censoring any adult content, and want to show users exactly what they are looking for — but we aim not to show sexually-explicit results unless a user is specifically searching for them. We use algorithms to select the most relevant results for a given query. If you’re looking for adult content, you can find it without having to change the default setting — you just may need to be more explicit in your query if your search terms are potentially ambiguous. The image search settings now work the same way as in Web search.
Still if you look for very explicit terms like “blow job” you get this:
Having air blown in your face is the new definition of “blow job” according to Google image search. These results are with SafeSearch off. Turn it on, and all these funny, innocent images disappear.
